Council member Shelly Cook who will be running again this fall is cooking some books. You may not know that besides sitting on Council Shelly is President of a little company you may know as "A-Line" a shuttle service that provides rides from Arvada to DIA. What is interesting about this conflict of interest is that Ms. Cook claims on her website that the A-line operates independently of the city of Arvada. The statement on her website is as follows: "Then, as of August 1, 2009, the A-Line became independent of Arvada government support."
The interesting thing about this is that that isn't the case. If you look at the picture below you will see A-line shuttle vans parked on city property which you and I are paying for. What gives Ms. Cook and her business the right to park her shuttles on our property without paying for use. Would it be appropriate for Waste Management to start parking their trash trucks back behind city hall as well? Or perhaps Pizza Hut could park their spare vehicles back there.
Further issues arise when Shelly's site makes the claim that the A-Line is an "Arvada-based non-profit organization" this statement is a blatant lie. The A-line is operated under an entity called Ride Provide Inc. which Council member Cook is president of. For those of you who don't know inc. is an abbreviation for incorporated.
Calling your for profit incorporated business a non-profit is illegal. If the fact that Shelly Cook is running a business and calling it a non-profit while operating using public resources for her profit makes you sick call her up and let her know.
Here is her contact information from her website.
